Who I am

Welcome to my website. My name is David Shafer. I grew up in north Dallas, I am the youngest of five brothers and that helped prepare me for a competitive world. I watched each of my older brothers tackle obstacles and I learned from their successes and failures. But, being hard headed, I felt I could succeed in areas my siblings failed. I was right and wrong.
By the time I reached high school, they had all left the house and started making names for themselves in different industries; IT, graphic design, aviation and professional driving. I graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School in 1987 and headed off to West Texas State University (West Texas A&M). I learned quickly that I was not ready for school, yet. I looked to Uncle Sam for guidance and he introduced me to the United States Marine Corps. The six years I served in the USMC have proven to be pivotal in all things I have done since. In those six years I learned my aviation trade by cutting my teeth on the CH53A, D, E aircraft. Maintaining that helicopter taught me fundamentals of aviation, pride in craft, and creative problem solving skills. Obstacles no longer frustrate me, they peak my interest.
